3091. Bessie Faye⁸ Gorby (John Grant⁷, James Sherman⁶, Samuel Stilley⁵, Samuel George⁴, Joseph³, Joseph², Samuel¹) was born in Salem, Ohio. November 2, 1913. Bessie died February 3, 1969 in Salem City Hospital, Salem, Ohio., at 55 years of age. Her body was interred. Woodsdale Cem. near Guilford Lake.

She married Carl Samuel Gamble in West Virginia., June 2, 1932. Carl was born in Butler Township near Salem, Ohio. January 21, 1911. Carl died April 16, 1997 in at home in Winona, Ohio., at 86 years of age. Ref: VLM1 Carl worked as a chief metal erector for N. R. M. in Columbiana for 19 years and was previously employed by Mullins Manufacturing and was a farmer. He retired in 1975.

A 1929 graduate of Olney Friends Boarding School, he was a member of the Friends Meeting in Winona and attended Winona Friends Church, where he taught Sunday school for 50 years.

He was a member of and past, president of the Winona Ruritan Club and the board of Hall Park, Winona.

Services were held on April 20th, 1997 at Winona Friends Church with the Rev. Stephen Savage and the Rev. William Glenn Althouse Officiating. Buried in Woodsdale Cemetery, Winona, Ohio next to his first wife, Betty.

Bessie's education:. Graduated From High School in 1929. Ref: VLM1 Betty was very active in the Friends Church in Winona, Ohio where she served as recording clerk for 20 years. Betty and Carl also had an infant son who died shortly after birth. He was the oldest of the children and is buried in the Winona Friends Meeting Cemetery, Winona, Ohio. (Charles Edward) Betty's real name was Bessie but the family called her Betty all of her life. Agnes and Grant named her after Agnes' Aunt Bess thinking it would be a compliment. However, when Aunt Bess heard this, she was very angry because she hated her name "Bess" and insisted they call the child Betty.
