He married Caroline Zehrbach in Hancock Co, OH., March 9, 1882. Caroline was born in Van Buren Twp, Hancock Co, OH. April 13, 1866. Caroline was the daughter of Peter Zehrbach and Catherine Rote. Caroline died April 6, 1939 in Hancock Co, OH., at 72 years of age. Her body was interred. Buried in Hassan Cemetery, Orange Twp, Hancock Co, OH. Ref: CMG1 - Charles Milan Gorby Jr now owns (in 1997) a nickle plated .22 pistol which originally belonged to Caroline Zehrbach. He says he was told that "she could shoot a bumblebee off a dandilion at 20 paces" with it.

Ref: BK07 - Caroline (Zehrbach) Gorby's obituary appeared April 7, 1939 in "The Republican Courier". It said she had been ill for five months from heart trouble, and gives her birth date as April 13, 1866, in Van Buren Twp, Hancock Co, OH. Ref: Bluffton News Obit, Thursday April 13, 1939, pg 8-7.16.99 Funeral services were held Saturday at the Riley Creek Baptist church for Mrs Caroline Gorby, 72, native of Hancock county, who died at her home in Orange township last Thursday afternoon. Mrs Gorby had been ill from heart disease for the last five months. She was born in Van Buren township on April 13, 1866. On March 9, 1882, she was married to Samuel Gorby who survives. Four children were born, three of whom are living, C F Gorby, Rawson; Earl Gorby, Toledo, and Mrs Goldie Baker, Orange township. Mrs Elizabeth Boutwell, Bluffton, is a sister. Mrs Gorby was a member of the Riley Creek Baptist church, where last rites were held with Rev L B Remaley, officiating. Burial was in the Hassen cemetery. Ref: RRG1,CMG1-11.27.98 - These great-grandsons of Samuel Gorby state that not only did Samuel chew tobacco, but he also gave it to his goats to chew. He also had pigeons roosting in his barn, and would often harvest their eggs and cook them as he would chicken eggs. Was living south of Rawson when he died.

Ref: Bluffton News Obit, Thursday June 1, 1950, pg 2-7.16.99 Funeral services for Samuel T Gorby, 87, Orange township native, were held in Riley Creek Baptist church, Monday afternoon. Mr Gorby died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Chas. Baker, Jenera, Saturday afternoon. His wife, Caroline preceded him in death in 1939. Besides his daughter he is survived by a sister, Mrs Leanna Mann, Hazel Park, Mich; brother Fred Gorby, Rawson; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Rev Delbert Pummel officiated at the funeral services assisted by Rev Clarence Bateson. Burial was in Hassen cemetery.
