107. Joseph5 Gorby (Samuel George4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Samuel1) was born in New Castle Co, DE. March 2, 1811. Joseph died May 29, 1895 in Hancock Co, OH., at 84 years of age. His body was interred. Buried in Hassan Cemetery, Orange Twp, Hancock Co, OH.

He married Sarah Thompson in Columbiana Co, OH., November 24, 1836. Sarah was born in OH. October 7, 1820. Sarah was the daughter of Samuel Thompson and Hannah Underwood. Sarah died May 4, 1909 in Hancock Co, OH., at 88 years of age. Her body was interred. Buried at Hassan Cemetery, Hancock Co, OH. Ref: CZF1 - The 1880 Census says that Sarah was born in OH, and both of her parents were born in VA.

Ref: TDW1-4.22.98 - Probate record states she died May 5, 1909, age 88y, 6m, 23d. Her place of residence and of death was listed as 221 Crystal Ave, Orange Twp, OH. Cause of death was cancer.

(1936) Joseph and Sarah (Thomson) Gorby moved to Meigs Co, OH after they were married. They lived there for three years and from there moved to Hancock Co, OH. The trip was made by horses and wagon. They located on a farm seven miles south of Rawson on the banks of Riley Creek. There in the forest they built their log cabin home.

Ref: CEN1880 - In Orange Twp, Hancock Co, OH, Joseph age 69, a retired farmer, born in DE as were his parents. Sarah age 60, born in OH and both her parents born in VA. Alfred Gorby and his family are recorded as part of the same household.

Ref: TDW1-4.22.98 - From Findlay Jeffersonian, Thursday June 6, 1895: "Joseph Garby, aged 81 years, died very suddenly of heart failure, last Wednesday afternoon, he was a well known and well respected citizen of this place. The funeral services were conducted by Rev Smith of Ada to a large concourse of sympathizing friends and neighbors, after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Hassan Cemetery.

child 509 ii. Hanna Gorby was born in OH. September 25, 1839. Hanna died March 7, 1841 in Rawson, Hancock Co, OH., at 1 year of age. CZF1 - This source lists date of birth as September 26, 1839 and date of death as March 17, 1841.

child 510 iii. Samuel T Gorby was born in OH. September 16, 1842. Samuel died April 11, 1862 in Paducah, KY., at 19 years of age. Ref: 4.3.98 - Samuel's father Joseph Gorby's Bible gave middle initial.

Ref: GWG1-4.22.98 - During the Civil War, Samuel served in Co H (Ohio Sharpshooters), 66th IL Infantry. As he died in 1862, it was probably while in service. Ref: GWG1-11.25.98 - According to muster records from the 66th IL, Samuel died of disease in Paducah, KY.
