GEDCOM Downloads

horizontal rule

Next approximated update of the GEDCOMs are October 30, 1999.

We had added 1100 individuals since the last GEDCOM update on March 20, 1998.
We have added 3806 individuals since going on-line March 31, 1997.

What/Who are our sources? See the source reference page to quickly determine Who told us What about Whom.

We have also had some people running PAF-type software report problems loading the original GEDCOM (which was optimized for ROOTS-type software), that we have added a second GEDCOM download for PAF-type software users.

Due to technical difficulties, the gedcoms are not currently available for download. Please accept our appologies. We hope they will be back on-line soon.

Submission Instructions

How to submit information for addition to (or correction of) the Gorby Family Web Site:

1. Data entry for the Web Site is done with Family Tree Maker 4.0b. If you have a lot of information already entered into a genealogical database, it is easiest to submit a GEDCOM file. Simply attach the GEDCOM to an e-mail message to: thegorb@one.net.

2. If you aren't familiar with the term GEDCOM and/or don't have any genealogical software, send it as a word processing or text document. WordPerfect (DOS or Windows), Microsoft Word for Windows, even something as simple as Notepad (Windows 3.1) or WordPad (Windows 95) would work great, or anything that creates a file with a .TXT extension. These can be included within an e-mail message or sent as an attachment to an e-mail message to: thegorb@one.net.

Please use the following format for text and/or word processing documents. All dates in MM-DD-CCYY format if possible. Leave blank if unknown:

Getting a copy of The Book

There are several places which are currently providing copies of "The Gorby Family, History and Genealogy" published by Alva Gorby in 1936. Unfortunately, we know of no one in the Gorby Family who is providiing this service. We wish there was. Since there have been several requests for this information, we have decided to include this list on the web site. This is not to be considered an endorsement of any of the companies listed here.

From Terry Gorby:
The Gorby book is available from Blairs Book Service. Once on the site you can search for Gorby and be lead to the information to order the book. It is the original book but for the $50, you get a Xerox copy, not a reprint. Some pages are not high quality.

From Daniel E Newell:
Reprints of the 1936 version of the Gorby book are available for $47.00 each from the Higginson Book Company, P.O. Box 778, Salem, MA 01970, (508)745-7170. It is actually made by a copy machine. All of the pages are readable. However, the pictures suffer greatly from the copy process.
