234. James Dolliver⁵ Gorby (William⁴, Eli³, Thomas², Samuel¹) was born in New Martinsville, VA. February 28, 1854. James died October 7, 1898 in Sherrard, WV., at 44 years of age.

He married Sarah Columbia Snodgrass in Wetzel Co, WV., August 31, 1876. Sarah was born in VA. May 31, 1856. Sarah died March 19, 1931 in Paonia, CO., at 74 years of age. Ref: CEN1880-8.16.99 - Age 24, born VA. (1936) James Dolliver Gorby was a farmer by trade and had the reputation of being able to shear more sheep in a day than any other man in his community. He got a lot of kick out of the old-time political parades that were common during every presidential election. He was active in church, big-hearted, and always ready to help a needy neighbor. His funeral was the largest country funeral ever witnessed in that part of the country.
