875. Jesse Calvin6 Gorby (Marion5, John Ryan4, Eli3, Thomas2, Samuel1) was born in Wileyville, WV. June 3, 1888. Jesse died February 20, 1963 in Athens Co, OH., at 74 years of age.

He married Carol Imer Jeffers in Parkersburg, WV., August 19, 1916. Carol was born 1899. Carol is the daughter of W E Jeffers Dr and ?.

Jesse resided :. In 1936, 150 McKeever St, Crooksville, OH. (1936) Through Rachel Miller, Calvin is a descendant of George Miller who served four enlistments in the Revolutionary War.

At the age of 16, Calvin quit school and struck out for himself and worked for the South Penn Oil Co for eleven years. In 1916 he went with the Firestone Rubber Co of Akron, OH, and in 1920 he bought a farm near Carpenter, OH where he stayed until 1926. He then went with the Ohio Power Co as an electrician, moving to Crooksville, OH. He is still with this company as assistant line foreman.

Calvin Gorby is best known as the promoter of the large Gorby Reunion held in Paden City, WV in 1934 and 1935, serving as President of the Association for those two years.

He is also an enthusiastic worker for the Gorby Family tree and history, contributing much to the compilation of this volume. He has been tireless in his efforts in tracing lines hard to straighten out, always ready to make trips to the "scene of the action" in order to get facts of the case. Much is due him for the success of this work.
