2056. Darrell Clinton⁷ Gorby (John Mack⁶, Marion⁵, John Ryan⁴, Eli³, Thomas², Samuel¹) was born April 19, 1921. Darrell died May 1, 1999 in Fort Myers, Lee Co, FL., at 78 years of age.

He married Margaret Louise Shafer in Gallipolis, OH., October 28, 1942. Margaret was born in Athens, OH. September 12, 1924. Ref: DCG1 2.23.98 Ref: DCG1-2.23.98 - Gave middle name. He remembers that in WV the roads were so bad in the winter, his family would buy a barrel of flour and a hundred pounds of sugar, then suspend them from the ceiling with wires to keep rodents out. Those supplies would last the family through the times when they couldn't travel. After his fathers death the family moved to Athens, OH. Darrel got a job driving a truck for a wholesale grocer.

Darrel Clinton Gorby served in an artillery unit during WWII. He was shipped out only a couple weeks after his wedding. During the war his unit was attached to both the 5th and 7th Armys. He saw action in North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, Southern France, and the Battle of the Bulge. His unit also destroyed the German jet fighter factories in southern Germany. After the war Darrel worked as a supervisor for a coal company.
