750. Thomas Leonard6 Gorby (Sylvestor Scott5, Thomas4, Job3, Thomas2, Samuel1) was born in Wrights Corner, Dearborn Co, IN. March 13, 1875.

He married Alice E Padgett in Hillsboro, OH., September 19, 1909. Alice was born April 21, 1881. Alice died January 22, 1961 in Barren Co, Ky., at 79 years of age. Ref: KY Online Death Certificates Index-8.21.99 (1936) In 1891 Thomas Leonard Gorby moved with his parents to Franklin, IN, attending high school and Franklin College there.

He served for three years in the Indiana State Militia - Co E, 2nd Infantry Regiment, ING. When the Spanish-American War broke out he enlisted with the famous Indiana Battery A, later changed to the 27th Light Artillery, Indiana Volunteers. They trained at Chickamauga Park and were sent to Puerto Rico, serving from June 11 to November 25, 1898.

Most of his life has been spent as a mining engineer and promoter of mining companies, especially dealing in gas, oil, onyx, and kaolin, operating mostly from Kentucky where he has spent many years, living in Cave City, KY. During the World War he was food administrator for his county. For many years he was a member of the board of education, is an active Mason and a strong Democrat, at present being postmaster in his home town. He and his wife are members of the Eastern Star, She being a very active worker in that organization.

Tom is charitable, genial, a good mixer, making him a general favorite with everyone. His word is as good as his bond, honest and upright in all his dealings. he is built along the lines of the larger Gorbys - tall and well built.
