Ref: Bluffton News Obit, Thursday April 21, 1949, pg 1-7.16.99 "Jacob Gorby, Former Resident, Succumbs Jacob Gorby, 62, formerly of Bluffton, died on Wednesday of last week at his home in Meford, OR, according to word received here. Death followed a several month's illness. He was the son of Mrs Chloe Heckathorn of this place who died about twelve years ago. The family formerly resided on Grove street in what is now the Charles Lora property. Jacob left Bluffton in 1904 to work for the Buckeye Pipe Line company in the telegraph department of the Lima office. He later went to the American Telephone & Telegraph company in 1910 and after working in Cleveland, Maumee, Terre Haute and North Platte, he transferred to the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph company in 1920 and has been employed there since that time. He was born in Rawson, February 26, 1887. His parents were Lewis and Chloe (Reid) Gorby. He visited here in 1934 and later attended the Gorby family reunion in Findlay in 1948. Surviving are his wife Anne of Medford; son William of New York City, three brothers Charles of Bay Village, OH, Earl Heckathorn of Delphi, IN, Royal Heckathorn of North Baltimore and a foster sister, Mrs Bertha Newman of Washington, DC."
