229. Ira Edward⁵ Gorby (William⁴, Eli³, Thomas², Samuel¹) was born July 5, 1845. Ira died August 7, 1906 in Wellsburg, WV., at 61 years of age.

He married twice. He married Hannah Murphy. He married Rachel Caroline Allen December 25, 1870. Rachel was born April 1, 1848. Rachel died May 15, 1918 in Tipp City, OH., at 70 years of age. (1978) Another birth date is April 1, 1849.

(1997) From the Ohio Online Death Certificate Project: Volume Number: 2600, Certificate Number: 33539. (1978) Ira Edward Gorby enlisted during the Civil War at Wheeling, was promoted to Corporal when only 16 years old. His record is at the National Battlefield Park, Manassas, VA. Ira participated in a number of very bloody battles and had several horses shot out from under him. His army record was one of bravery and hardships. He died at Wellsburg, WV, August 7, 1906 (A second date is October 6, 1908), and is buried near there.
