155. Martha Ellen⁵ Gorby (Eli⁴, Job³, Thomas², Samuel¹) was born 1844. Martha died February 5, 1916 in Rocky, OK., at 71 years of age.

She married Jacob Frybarger Taylor in IA., February 20, 1868. Jacob was born in Warren Co, OH. May 25, 1845. Jacob died February 26, 1928 in Rocky, OK., at 82 years of age. Jacob's Military Service:. Civil War veteran. (1978) Information on Martha Ellen (Gorby) Taylor's descendants were provided by Geraldine Willsey & Jane Whiteman as a supplement to The Gorby Family History in 1978.

Newspaper Obituary: "Martha E Taylor, wife of J F Taylor, died in their home in Rocky, OK, February 5, 1916. She was born in Hamilton Co, IN, in the year 1844, and was therefore 72 years old at her death. She was united in marriage to Jacob F Taylor February 20, 1868 in the state of Iowa. They resided there about six years. Then moved to Missouri where they lived until 1894, at which time they moved to Washita Co, OK, where they made their home til her death.

Two children, W H Taylor and Kate Johnston were born to them, and are left together with their father to mourn the loss of devoted mother. She also has two sisters living both of whom were at her funeral. Brother and sis. Taylor came to Okla. in an early day, and had to suffer the disadvantages and inconveniences peculiar to a new country. In those days there were no church houses and but few school houses in this part of the country, but sis. Taylor having obeyed the gospel of Christ at the age of 23, was loyal to her confession. They would meet under trees or in private houses or at most anywhere to worship the Lord whom she acknowledged to be her savior.

She was indeed a grand, good woman, a Christian woman in every sense of the word. Honest, industrious, economical, and devoted to her husband and home, to her children and church, and mindful of everybody.

Besides her relatives, she has a host of friends in and around Rocky where she has lived many years, where she has been an important factor in building up the church of Christ.

On Saturday before she died at 8:45pm she was very busy all day cooking and making the necessary preparations fr Sunday. Even the bread she had baked had not gotten cold when she died."

Martha Ellen Gorby and Jacob Frybarger Taylor had the following children:

+ 715 ii. Kate Taylor was born January 19, 1872.
