103. Richard5 Gorby (Joseph4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Samuel1) was born in Brandywine Hundred, New Castle, DE. ABT. 1811.

He married Elizabeth Stinson. Elizabeth was born ABT. 1830. Elizabeth died ABT. 1926. (1936) Elizabeth (Stinson) Gorby lived to be 96 years old, living with her daughter in Chester, PA after the death of her husband.

Ref: CEN1850 - Elizabeth Gorby is listed as being 20 years old, birthplace DE. (1999) Originally listed in the 1935 Gorby Book as a son of Joseph generation II, census data indicates that Richard Gorby was too young to be a son of Joseph generation II and Mary Littlejohn/Stidham/Loan or of Joseph generation III and Hannah Stilley. He has therefore been moved to be a son of Joseph generation IV. It is not known at this time whether he is actually a son of Joseph gen IV, but 1820 DE census data lists Joseph gen IV as having 3 sons born after 1805 and two of those were born after 1810. It is certainly more accurate than what was published in 1935.

(1936) It is not certain which wife was Richard's mother, but as Joseph Gorby, son of Mary Loan, named a son Joseph Richard, it would lead one to conclude that Richard was an own brother - a son of Mary Loan.

Ref: CEN1850 - Richard Gorby living in Brandywine Hundred, DE. He is listed as being 39 years old, making him His occupation is Mason, birthplace PA.

Ref: CEN1870-7.16.99 - Richard Gorby living in Borough of Upland in Chester Twp, Delaware Co, PA. Listed as 57 years old, occupation Laborer, birthplace PA. Listed with him is wife Elizabeth age 41, daughters Mary Jane and Martha both age 18 (the cenus taker bracketed the pair, perhaps indicating twins?), daughter Sarah age 13, son Richard age 6, daughter Hannah age 4, daughter Ida age 2. Note that Belle and William are not listed.

Richard Gorby and Elizabeth Stinson had the following children:

child 485 i. Belle6 Gorby. She married Robert Collins.

Belle resided :. Chester, PA. (1936) Belle (Gorby) Collins was still living a few years ago, at 1711 Walnut St, Chester, PA, but it has been impossible to locate any of her family. No record of any children.

In a letter written in 1909 to Leon A Gorby of E Palestine, OH, she mentions Uncle Jonathon, Uncle Samuel and Uncle Jacob. "Uncle Jacob" as being the only one of her father's brothers whom she had ever seen. She also mentions the old Joseph Gorby homestead as lying between Baltimore Pike and the Delaware River, and at that time a son of Julia Ann Pierce Perkins, daughter of Lena, daughter of Joseph, was living in the old home.

Ref: CEN1850 - Belle does not show up on the DE census with her parents. By this time Joseph & Hannah Stilley's sons Jonathon and Samuel George had been living in OH for almost 40 years. A Jacob Gorby was located on the same census living just a few miles across PA border in Delaware county.

Ref: CEN1870-7.26.99 - Neither Belle nor WIlliam show of on the PA census with her parents. A Richard, age 6 is listed. Perhaps another generation was skipped.

child 486 ii. William Gorby. (1936) Evidently William Gorby never married, as his sister Belle (Gorby) Collins mentions him, her mother, and herself as being members of the same household, and does not mention anyone else living with them. There is no further record of him.
