He married Alice Jordan in (Horseleap church) Offlay Co. Clara, Ireland, 1842. Alice was born in Ireland. Ref CBG1: William was married in (Ardnurcher) Horseleap church in Clara (Westneath Co.) currently (Offlay Co.). William married his cousin Alice Jordan in this church.

The county borders of Offaly and Westneath changed often.

William, with his wife Alice Jordan and son Thomas immigrated to Canada from Clara, Offlay county, Ireland. This family was joined by Edward Gorby and Thomas Gorby, brothers of William.
