1. Joseph1 Gorby was born in Clara, Offlay Co, Ireland ABT. 1800.

He married Unknown. REF: CBG1, Had a pew in Horseleap church.

Joseph used to tell his Granddaughter, Emily Gorby about the ruins on the banks of the Shannon river at Clonmacnois. He was born just fifteen miles from Clonmacnois, and had becone a schoolmaster in the town of Clara, as had his father before him. He was later appointed Royal Constable in Cavan.

Margaret Messer -- G-grandaughter of Joseph Gorby -- visited our cousins in Ireland. She has found the proof of Josephs Gorby's history in the Record Office in London, England. In the Genealogical office in Dublin, Ireland, she has found records that tell of a Thomas Gorby in the parish of Kilmanaghan in the Benefice of Ardnurcher (in 1827) in the perpetual curacy of Clara; but all other records sent to Dublin before 1845 were destroued during the burnings of 1916.

The rector of Horsleap Church in Clara told her that he has records of the Gorbys.

Joseph Gorby and Unknown had the following children:

child 2 i. Thomas2 Gorby was born in Ireland. Ref CBG1: William, Edward, and Thomas immigrated to Canada.

Ref TLG1, 9.12.97: No date has been determined for the immigration.No more information. He did not move to Renfrew Co, Ontario like William and Edward.

child + 3 ii. Edward Gorby.

child + 4 iii. William Gorby was born 1820.

child + 5 iv. Joseph Gorby, Jr was born March 14, 1832.
