79. John4 Gorby (Jesse3, Thomas2, Samuel1) was born in VA. 1817.

He married twice. He married M A Stoutlemire AFT. 1849. He married Elizabeth Wade in Tyler Co, WV., April 24, 1845. Elizabeth was born in VA. November 14, 1822. Ref: CEN1880-8.16.99 - Age 60, born VA. (1936) John Gorby was known as "Big John", the strong man of the Gorby family. It is said that he could carry 14 bushels of wheat at a time, and pick up 800 pounds and walk off with it. He weighed 280 pounds and wore a number 13 boot. He could not buy shoes to fit him, so, with the first snowfall, he would go walking, barefooted, to his cousin, John Ryan Gorby, son of Eli, carrying leather enough for a pair of boots, and would stay until they were made. John Ryan was not a shoemaker by trade, but made shoes for his own family and occasionally a friend. John Gorby lived on Fish Creek in Marshall Co, WV.

child 368 vi. Henry Gorby. Was not a son of Jesse.
